JOSEF SUDEK'S BIRTHDAY
The most interesting thing about Josef Sudek is that he knew about his shadow as an archetype. That is why he was able to create art of the astonishing quiet harmony of the world, despite experiencing the suffering of the First World War, in which he lost his right arm. He said he had a special towel so he could wash and dry his hand himself...

He did not photograph people but his "unconscious" as a landscape, the Mionší primeval forest in the Beskydy can personify his relationship to the shadow of the personality. He mentioned his imaginary "brother" who was responsible, for example, for his bad mood: "Yeah, my bro was acting wild again," he said.

I don't know if he knew anything about C.G. Jung, but maybe he didn't need to know. He knew that hell had no bottom and he knew what fog, water, dusk really meant in a photograph.

Translation of the humorous beginning of the conversation from the Czechoslovak magazine Fotografie from 1966 for Sudek's 70th birthday in the second photo. I don't know if it's so funny in English:
Novotný: Quantity is the basis for the occurrence of singularity.
Sudek: Quantity is a small multiplication table.
Novotný: In addition to quantity, there must also be patterns.
Sudek: PLUMS MUST BE PICKED. (It means boyish fun when stolen fruit was a child's only sweet.)
Novotný: Out of abundance comes intention.
Sudek: Sometimes it's even different.

Odraz v okně v čekárně u doktora, kde jsem absolvoval výstupní kontrolu ze zaměstnání. Po hodině čekání, kdy jsem dumal nad tím jaké archetypy my, budoucí předkové, nastolíme těm, kteří přijdou po nás? Moudrý stařec nebo nemocný senior? jsem byl za 5 minut venku a měl tuhle fotku. Je to taková ta nic moc, ale nedám na ni dopustit.

Když procházíš svou dávnou krajinou,
větve stromů se ti nad cestou skloní.
Když večer svítící se květy zavinou,
v noci pak hvězdy dívat se přicházejí.
.
Vzdechy tak voní teplá zem
a modři a stříbru se otevíráš,
vlévá se do nohou jak polibkem
dávných rtů, co ve snech si připomínáš.
.
Strmými srázy svou touhou vrháš,
kde zvěř chodí nahá po špičkách
a čas trvá jinak, než co ho znáš,
pak ztratíš se v smaragdových uličkách.
.
Plout a plout — v nich nesen jsi,
ozářen břichy letících ptáků
a tajemstvím purpuru v červenci,
jenž klesá teď k tobě z vysokých mraků.
.
Z šustění křovin v hlubinách lesa,
kde perlí se hvězdy na hlavách hadů,
cosi stejného jako ty k tobě z pralesa
pokojně zvedá svou zářící hlavu.
